Prof. Dr. Gürel PEKKAN

Born in 1975 in Tekirdağ, Gürel PEKKAN completed primary school in Kaşıkçı Village Primary School, secondary school and high school in Tekirdağ Anatolian High School. In 1999, he graduated from Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry, which he started in 1994. He started his doctorate in the same year and completed it in 2005 at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Prosthodontics, Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences. Between 2000-2005, he started his academic life as a Research Assistant at Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Prosthodontics. In 2006, he was appointed as Asst. Prof. Dr. at Kütahya Dumlupınar University. In 2011, he received the title of Assoc. Prof. Dr. and in 2018, he received the title of Prof. Dr..

He started his academic studies clinically with aesthetic dentistry applications, implant-supported prostheses, maxillofacial prostheses, prosthetic treatments of patients with jaw joint disorders and cleft lip and palate, and currently continues his studies in the field of materials science in dentistry, especially in the fields of materials used in full ceramic systems, zirconia and laser metal sinterization systems.

Prof. Dr. Gürel PEKKAN, between 2006-2011, during his tenure at Kütahya Dumlupınar University Health Services Education Research Center, established the Dentistry Unit and carried out the establishment of Kütahya Dumlupınar University Faculty of Dentistry. Between 2007-2011, he worked as the Assistant Chief Physician in charge of Dentistry at Kütahya Dumlupınar University, Health Services Education, Practice and Research Center Hospital. In 2011, with the establishment of Kütahya Dumlupınar University Faculty of Dentistry, he was appointed as the Vice Dean, and with the gathering of the health units of the university under the name of Kütahya Health Sciences University in 2018, he continued this duty until 2019. Between 2010-2011, he was among the founders of Kütahya Dumlupınar University Advanced Technologies Center (İLTEM) and Design Center, he was on the Advisory Board of the center between 2012-2015, and within the same center, he established one of the first Digital Dentistry laboratories in our country's Dentistry, in which CAD-CAM, three-dimensional printer, metal and plastic laser sinterization systems work in an integrated manner. In addition, he established education, application and research laboratories within the Faculty of Dentistry.

He served as a member of the Faculty Board and Faculty Administrative Board of Kütahya Dumlupınar and Health Sciences Universities, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Health Sciences. He served as the chairman of the Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Clinical Sciences (2012-2017) and Department of Prosthodontics (2011-2019). He served as a Professor member elected by the Senate in the Board of Directors of Kütahya Health Sciences University between 2018-2019. Since December 2019, he has been serving as the Dean of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University (TNKÜ) Faculty of Dentistry as the founder. In 2021, he established TNKU Oral and Dental Health Application and Research Center, which started its activities. He has over 50 national and international articles, 30 of which are SCI-Exp, over 40 national and international papers, editorial board memberships in various international journals, referees in over 30 national and international journals, and over 1100 citations in journals indexed by various indexes.

He speaks English and German. He is married and has one child.
